How to Brush Your Teeth

Posted .

Did you know that there is a right and wrong way to brush your teeth? Were you aware that brushing incorrectly can actually damage your smile? Today we would like to provide you with a quick guide to help ensure that you brush your teeth properly and safely to help you have a beautiful smile.

The American Dental Association, or ADA, recommends that you brush your teeth at least two times each day. You also need to make sure that you have the right kind of toothbrush for your particular needs. If you’re concerned about cleaning the hard-to-reach places in your mouth, a brush with a small head may be the best option. If plaque is your primary concern, a brush with soft bristles should be able to do the job.

Be sure that you take your time to brush thoroughly. Our dentists recommend that you spend at least two minutes brushing your teeth. Many people rush through this routine. To help, you could get a toothbrush with an automatic timer, or you could set a timer on a stopwatch.

While brushing, you should tilt your toothbrush at a 45 degree angle and use short, precise strokes to clean all the surfaces of your upper and lower teeth. Using these strokes can help ensure that you do not accidentally cause trauma to your mouth. You should move your brush in a gentle back and forth motion, and don’t forget your tongue! Brushing your tongue can help both your oral health overall and it can help to keep your breath fresher.
